Kitchen lighting?
I'm in the process of remodeling my kitchen with new flooring, appliances, cabinets and lighting. I had a false ceiling with floricent lights above the 2x4 paneling. I've removed the paneling and lights and now am thinking of installing recessed lights but don't know how to space them or where. The ceiling is 8-ft and the cabinets are going to be castled (staggered to the ceiling). I really hate to have a shadow on the countertop. How far out over the sink should one be placed? Another problem, recessed lighting says insulation should not be within 3 inches. The area above the kitchen is an attic with blown-in insulation. I really don't want the cold to be coming in around them. How can that be avoided?
I generally place the cans centered over the cabinet doors and aprox 12 to 18 inches away from the doors. Center over the sink. Use IC ... See More

Kitchen Lighting for a Cabin in the Woods?
Looking for suggestions for kitchen lighting fixtures for a cabin we have in a rural wooded area. The cabin is good sized, 3 bedrooms, 6 total rooms. It is a log-cabin look on the outside but pretty much a regular house on the inside. We are re-doing the kitchen, it will be pretty up-to-date, new appliances and cabinets. Chestnut wood cabinets. Just wondering if anyone has good ideas for lighting fixtures. Descriptions would be good, links to actual fixtures would be great. Thanks!

My current kitchen lighting is a rectangular traditional fixture. I want to change it to something like the chandelier seen at this page: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stor… . Is there such thing as a low-profile pendant fixture for track lighting?
I need something that isn't directional (like a spotlight), but rather more like a regular light fixture that spreads light in all directions. And I want it to be low-profile, so it doesn't extend very far below the ceiling. If this exists, please direct me to a website with an example. I won't choose yours as best answer unless you give me a link.

LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT HELP!?
Hello all, I'm using a Lego Mindstorms NXT kit for a physics project of mine. The project is relatively simple. I'm basically proving F=m/a. About the project: I'm using various weighted pingpong balls to roll down a track of a known, fixed distance. d is known, t will be measured, and F will be calculated. I'm using the various mindstorms components to 'kick' the ball and measure the time it takes for the ball to pass from one light sensor to another. The problem: I was able to program the motor to rotate an arm 360* (providing the kicking motion) pretty easily. However, **I need to program the timer to start as soon as the ball passes one light sensor and stop when it passes the other, recording the time it takes** I can not, for the life of me, figure this out. I know the light sensors can essentially function as motion sensors using reflected light from the built-in LEDs. If it helps, the pingpong balls are white (though they can be painted if necessary). I was wondering if someone could please, please help me out with a program that can preform this function.
Sensors are motion detectors - but you are working with round objects - which present only a tiny surface to reflect back to the sensor. ... See More
